Ken Riead, At Large
Senior CEM/CDSM/CSDP & Chartered “Legend in Energy” w/AEE
Certified HERS Rater w/RESNET
Certified Energy & Environmental Instructor with MCC & UCM
Senior Consultant & Marketing Director for Hathmore Technologies, LLC
While it may seem as though Ken hasn’t been an active participant in Historic Green, he has been a passive adviser over the years. Ken was the Residential Green Building Advocate (LEED for Homes Advocate) for Greensburg, KS. Right now, he works with Joplin, MO & similar devastated communities.
He was the first Residential Green Building Advocate for USGBC Central Plains Chapter, first dual-certified energy conservation and renewable energy instructor for the State of Colorado and the Director of the Arapahoe Energy Conservation Laboratory in Littleton, Colorado. Ken provided instructor curriculum for the formation of Solar Energy International, wrote the national job duties and requirements for energy auditors and raters for O’Net on behalf of the US Dept. of Labor and helped write the charter infrastructure for what is now known as RESNET. He has received recognition from the Energy-Environment Committee of the City of Independence, MO, as well as Who’s-Who of Energy Instructors for 1979, 80 & 81, and he earned an honorary Energy Diploma from Captain America through Marvel Comics Group!
Ken loves to fish but (as you might have guessed by now) he never has the time! He started a garden this year, loves to examine and test solar and wind installations on zero-energy, off-the-grid homes, and constantly invents and/or tinkers with things. Oh, and he just wrote and published his first book.
Ken is married to Sharla Riead, an energy and environmental expert in her own right and in his words, a computer/financial guru. His oldest daughter, Lorien, (named after Loth Lorien in the Hobbit), is a certified HERS rater and now resides near Washington, DC with her hubby, Jon, son Rowan, and daughter Kaiya. My youngest daughter, Kaycie, lives in the KC area and works with us at Hathmore. Kaycie is also a Junior at UCM – University of Central Missouri – with a high GPA and love for the English language.
Ken loves to visit the monuments in DC, which happens more often now that his daughter lives there. His favorite Green thing/project: The Villa Cahn Castle in Bonn, Germany that has been renovated as a historically accurate yet green testament to the famous architect, Herr Cahn by Herr Asbeck. (Ken has quite the story to go along with the Castle, so be sure to ask him when you see him!) His favorite Green group is the drum corps at the KC Renaissance Festival, and his favorite Muppets are the Swiss Chef and Beaker.
Ken thinks that he is too old to be all that tasty and appealing for a zombie at this point so he’s relying on a cloak of invisibility to hide him and his family.
